Welcome to the Data Science Club at CSM

Data Science is a multidisciplinary practice requiring skills in computer science, math, analytical techniques and domain expertise. The Data Science Club at the College of San Mateo aims to advance students’ understanding of the field of data science through:

  1. Holding discussions on related data science fields
  2. Promoting and supporting student projects
  3. Hosting guest speakers
  4. Awarding prize money from the Club’s resources

Data is growing rapidly and all CSM students stand to benefit greatly in their respective careers by understanding the tools and techniques used in data science.

According to Wikipedia:

Data science is an interdisciplinary field that uses scientific methods, processes, algorithms and systems to extract knowledge and insights from structured and unstructured data, and apply knowledge and actionable insights from data across a broad range of application domains.

Meetings are once weekly on Zoom, and occur on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday at 6PM. Meetings typically last 30 minutes and focus on learning more about data science, admin topics, and future plans and ideas.

We are the Data Science Club at CSM, committed to learning more about data science and creating projects to utilize data science tools such as NumPy, Pandas, and Jupyter. We hold weekly meetings and discuss various topics in data science to increase our understanding and knowledge of this field.

As of Spring 2021, Drew is a CSM student in his 2.5? semester at College of San Mateo studying for the ‘Data Science and Big Data’ certificate. He founded the ‘Club’ with the hope of helping students (including himself!) better understand data science and its relevance to their careers. He hopes to enter a Masters program in the near future.

He really really likes coffee and will happily discuss mobility ad nauseam. So beware of an overly enthusiastic and energized conversation.

He has a dog, wife and lots of bicycles.
